Volunteer Program

Background

At the geographical heart of the African continent lies the extraordinary land of Uganda. Uganda lies astride the Equator, where the East African savannah meets the West African jungle, making this an area of unimaginable biodiversity. There is no other country in the world like it. Over 100,000 species of animals, including 1,200 species of butterflies, call Uganda their home. Explore the world’s second largest lake, Lake Victoria, and see the headwaters of the mighty Nile River.

Uganda is one of the friendliest nations you can visit in Africa – and even the world – with their wonderful hospitality earning the top spot in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel rankings just a few years ago. And if the hospitality isn’t enough to rope you in, Uganda is also known for amazing food (chicken stew, plantains, donuts, and so much more!) and incredible wildlife.

Despite Uganda’s allure, it is among the poorest countries in the world and truly in need of interventions. Many Ugandans live on less than one dollar per day, and the country’s population is among the youngest in the world. Half of Uganda’s citizens are under the age of 14, with over 50% of the population being female.
